Located on the east coast of the Yucatan peninsula, Belize is a vacation destination whose tropical treasures have not been tainted by mass tourism. Belize's proximity to reef and rain forest is what makes Belize so unique, and no vacation to Belize is complete without visiting them both.

Belize is the only English speaking Central American country. Because English is the national language, it is quite easy to travel and shop within the country.

Travel Tips for your Belize Vacation:

What to wear: Belize is a very informal country, with a very casual life-style. Unless you are invited to a Government function, please leave your "After Five" attire at home.

Shorts, T-shirts, sunglasses, and bathing suits, as well as some comfortable tennis shoes or deck shoes are the most appropriate atire while lounging on the beach of Kanantik or spending the day on the water fishing or visiting the barrier reef. As the sun is probably more intense than what you are used to at home, bring a cap to protect your head from the tropical sun when you are boating and/or fishing. Polarized sun glasses will enhance the variable colors of the coastal waters of Belize as well as reduce the reflective glare off of the water.

Loose fitting, light colored cotton pants and camping shirts, along with a comfortable pair of hiking shoes or boots are appropriate for trekking through the rain forest or visiting the Mayan ruins. A hat with a wide brim will provide shade from the tropical sun, as well as provide protection from a tropical shower.

A day pack, to carry a water bottle, energy bars, camera, film, binoculars, poncho, hand towel, etc., is a welcomed accessory. A collapsable hiking staff can prove to be a valuable aid for both your hikes into the jungle and visits to the Mayan ruins.

Personal equipment to bring: Passport, Visa (if applicable), Prescription Drugs, Sunglasses, Sun Tan Lotion, repellent (remember you will be in the tropics !!), Camera/Film, Batteries, SCUBA certification card and dive log, binoculars, etc.
